EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Collin College Board accepted Megan Wallace’s resignation on September 23 which left the Place 1 trustee seat open. Applications opened on September 15 and will close on October 24 — the selected candidate will serve until the next regular election in May 2027 and complete the term ending in May 2029.  Collin County Magazine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 23, the Allen City Council approved a $1.1M contract with A&C Construction Inc. for the quarter-mile Watters Trail South Extension that will connect Montgomery Apartments at Watters Creek to the nearly finished Rowlett Trail—eventually linking Allen with McKinney. The project will use sustainable, low-maintenance materials and is expected to be completed in April or May.  Collin County Magazine
  • City officials approved zoning on September 23 for a 136-acre site east of the Honey Creek subdivision that may allow up to 600 single-family homes including cottages, villas, and classic designs. The decision follows a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation and sets development requirements—such as historic lot and villa limits—to ensure compatibility with nearby areas.  Collin County Magazine

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medical City McKinney has opened a new $50M plaza building—five stories and about 124,500 square feet—that will let doctors offer services in heart care, bone care and rehab treatments. This facility aims to bring more specialized medical care to our area.  McKinney Courier-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new guide helps McKinney residents choose the best painters in the DFW area—offering clear tips such as checking reviews and seeking word-of-mouth recommendations.  Collin County Magazine

SPORTS NEWS

  • McKinney North and Prosper Walnut Grove will play at 5 p.m. today in District 9-5A volleyball with both teams undefeated at 5—0. North rallied from a 2—1 set deficit while Walnut Grove won its matches against Lovejoy and Sherman to secure the final undefeated spot.  Collin County Magazine
  • Following Tuesday’s matches, district 6-6A volleyball saw the top four teams separated by one game—Plano West leads at 7-1 while Allen, Plano, and Plano East are tied at 6-2. The report noted Allen’s win over McKinney Boyd and Plano’s three-set victory over Prosper Rock Hill, setting the stage for Friday’s games.  Collin County Magazine
