  • Local and state leaders reacted to the election of Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Francis as Pope Leo XIV—an event seen as historic for American Catholics. Bishop Edward Burns of Dallas held a news conference at 3 p.m. on May 8, and former President George W Bush congratulated the new pope for his expected service to the neediest.  FOX 4

  • Dallas-area tennis players competed in UIL regional tournaments with local matches held at the Courts of McKinney where Jesuit's Connor Cole won the boys singles final and Coppell's Alexandra Patton won the girls singles final—other rounds saw key wins by players from College Park, The Woodlands and Grapevine at events in Waco and McLeod Tennis Center.  The Dallas Morning News
